Building The Flower House

DIY Greenhouse | Flower House

Flower House

Hi friends, we’re back under construction with what will be my Flower House.

Many of you have been following my Instagram Stories where I have been sharing the process.

(if you have missed them, they’re saved to my highlights under my profile)

However, many of you are not on Instagram so I wanted to share my excitement with all of you.

Several years ago I wrote a blog post about having an Organic Flower Farm, however, we quickly decided against it.

We felt like the timing was not right and at the time we were thinking of starting much bigger…putting it on our farmland.

A couple of years went by and we decided to plant some zinnias behind our house.

(which is the area I consider our yard…no cows on it and we mow it)

I purchased zinnia and sunflower seeds and gathered all the supplies for our raised beds.

And then all of a sudden the pandemic hit and we were all at home.

Lucky for us we had all the materials to get started with our cut flower garden.

Before we knew it we had hundreds of zinnias in bloom and then the sunflowers.

There was not a day that went by that we didn’t mention the birds, bees, and butterflies.

We had definitely found something that brought us joy.

The Flower House will be the anchor to the Cut Flower Garden.

As usual, we’re building it with salvaged materials.

Beautiful antique windows, charming French shutter doors, and a chippy white hundred-year-old floor.

We have just started cladding the outside and then we will move inside.

I’m pretty sure we will add white tin inside and finally finishing off the front.

As it comes together the flower garden is also getting ready for a bigger season.

This year I have added six new varieties of sunflowers, zinnias, and new to us dahlias.

I’m also looking at several ideas to add privacy around the flower house with a climbing rose(Eden) and a Pink Crape Myrtle.

If you have any flowers you love please share them in the comments below so we can all learn and grow together.

This is all new to me, but I know that I love seeing the blooms and I can’t wait to take you from

Seed to Print

Kindly, xo

Jane

  • Oh my gosh Jane! I have been out of the loop! I am so, so excited for you!!
    It’s just gorgeous so far!
My favorite flowers have always been spring blooms. Tulips, peonies, lilacs, and I just love Lilly of the valley.
I’m gonna catch up on what I missed on IG. 🙂

  • Hi Jane,

I have been following the flower house progress on Instagram. I LOVE it! I can’t wait to see it turn up in your photographs and print items especially with those climbing roses. And I am so excited for the continuation of your flower journey. I have grown dahlias, black-eyed Susans and zinnias and I love all of them. I have started growing lavender and I have found it fun to grow. I am going to try to grow some from seed this year and see how it turns out.

    • Hi, Karen,

Hugs thank you and what kind of lavender are you growing?

I have a few to add to our garden and have been reading about what type grows well in the south

      • I really don’t know what kind of lavender it is. I have purchased plants from a greenhouse and Lowe’s and have had good luck with those. I am going to try growing it from seed with some English lavender seeds that I got from Sow True Seeds.

    • Beautiful! You always create beauty. I’m also adding an Eden climber to my little garden, to replace an Iceberg that didn’t make it. In that same small garden I have two white Crepe Myrtles. I think they make wonderful companions. I can’t wait to see your finished Flower House and your new additions to your flower garden. 💕
