Not long ago I came across a box full of vintage inkwells.
Mainly the light blue/green glass and a few clear ones.
They all have their own shape and unique characteristics due to aging.
Looking over each one…finding myself getting lost in the story.
A story that I don’t know, but one that I can only imagine.
Daydreaming of a time when someone would sit at their desk writing.
The penmanship alone is a work of art.
What would it have been like to sit at a desk writing every word with intention.
Dipping a pen and filling the page with thoughts or words of love.
Letters that may not reach the person for months.
I imagine these little inkwells sitting at that persons desk.
Unlike other inkwells that are often referred to as travelers or travel wells.
Regardless their cuteness is hard not to notice.
The history and the story gets my attention, but it is the piece that truly captures my heart.
The way it has worn over time and the story it can help me tell today.
I don’t look for perfection…I look for imperfection.
And this little box I came across was full of just that.
I keep them at my vintage desk in my studio and I have decided to part with three of them.
