With the February Barn Show at Chartreuse coming this week I decide to make some barnwood hearts to fill my booth and celebrate Valentine’s Day….farm style!
This is a really easy project that produces a great end product.
Simply start by cutting out the shape of a heart on construction paper.
Once, you arrive at your desired shape (I took a few attempts at mine) trace your heart onto a rustic piece of barnwood…the thicker the better.
*TIP* Trace your hearts alternating, one right side up and the next upside down to maximize the number you can fit onto your board.
You are now ready to create!
Grab your gloves, your safety glasses, and a jigsaw and just follow the lines on the wood.
I was just going to leave the hearts as is…but my husband had the tin out and was cutting some smaller tin hearts. I didn’t intend to combine the hearts together, but when I laid one of these little rusty hearts on top of my freshly cut barnwood, the look of the contrasting materials was striking.
It’s fitting that on this Valentine’s Day project I found that these two hearts were simply meant to be together… isn’t that what Valentine’s Day is all about?
To make sure these two stayed together forever, I pre-drilled holes around the perimeter of the heart and hammered small cut tacks into each hole.
And there it is… your barnwood heart.
May Cupid take aim at you all…Happy Valentine’s Day
Kindly,
Jane
