Late Summer in the Garden | Hydrangea & Chrysanthemum Inspiration

Flower Garden | Hydrangea & Chrysanthemum Inspiration

By the end of August, the garden feels different. July may be the hardest month, but August carries its own weight. The pace slows just a little, even though the heat still lingers here in the South. Flower gardeners and farmers know this rhythm. The season is catching up to us!

Right now, our hydrangeas are starting to shift in color, showing off their softer, more muted tones. The chrysanthemums are growing and will bloom in the fall. These flowers mark the season for me!  Reminders that while summer is still here, change is on the way.

This photo of my chrysanthemums is one of those fleeting moments I love to capture. Because it’s not just about the flowers in their prime, it’s about the story of the garden.  The effort it takes, the beauty that comes from it, and the reminder that none of it lasts forever.

I think that’s why I reach for my camera so often this time of year. Even in the tiredness, there’s something worth holding onto.

A Little Inspiration from Last Year

I also wanted to share a few photos from last year. I’ve started to think about fall photos and I usually go back through my images.  They give me inspiration, ideas, and reminders of color palettes, textures, or even just the feeling I want to carry into fall.

You’ll see vintage baskets, buckets, and antique bikes.  These are all props I use in my photos and self-portraits to add layers of story and history. For me, photography isn’t only about the flowers. It’s about slowing down enough to notice the way light falls, how petals fade, and how all these small details come together.

If you’re on Pinterest, feel free to pin these for later. I love that images can be a kind of inspiration board, whether you’re planning a future garden or simply tucking away an idea for when the time feels right.
