Pink Zinnias in The Flower House | Zinnias, Roses, Dahlias

Flowers

I have seen flower failures and sweet successes this growing season.

It’s been full of challenges and a huge learning curve, but I think the losses showed me a path I had not considered.

You see…I was listening and learning from people that grow an abundance of flowers.

Growing them to sell the blooms or seeds and creating new beautiful varieties.

While I love following along and learning I also noticed something.

Zinnia Flower Garden

I had a different dream!

One of the differences is that I want to grow large blooms for my photography.

It was in the moments of listening that I realized we were growing flowers for a very different reason.

I want to grow large, whimsical blooms to style and photograph.

The broomstick or angled stems don’t bother me.

Large blooms and broomstick stems are something most flower farmers avoid because they’re harder to work with in a bouquet.

Pretty flowers with straight stems sell.

Yet, when I’m harvesting I look for blooms with their own unique personality and I don’t mind the twisty ones.

I actually like them!

Dahlias are now making their grand appearance and they never disappoint!

Each bloom is unique, imperfect, and simply stunning.

The flower garden feels therapeutic in a way and creating ambiance is at the heart.

Just like my photography…I wanted to create a peaceful feeling within the garden.

The mornings are met with dew, birds singing, and cobwebs.

The magic of nature unfolds before my eyes.

Princesse Charlene de Monaco Rose in an Antique Ironstone Vase

There is a romanticism to growing flowers that I want to honor.

That’s one of the reasons I love growing roses even though it’s difficult in the south with our climate.

These beauties are the Princesse Charlene de Monaco Rose.

They have become a favorite cut flower with their ruffled petals and sweet scent.

Beautiful within the garden with their glossy green leaves.

If you’re new to growing cut flowers…ask yourself the reason you want to grow them.

Your why will help you design the perfect garden for you.

My flower garden is imperfect, but nature does not mind.

Bees and butterflies love that I don’t cut all my flowers!

If you do have a flower garden consider photographing your flowers and designing a set of notecards to give to family and friends.

A handmade gift from your garden to their heart!

You can find the notecards I created in The JM Shop.

As always thank you for following along
