Vintage Props
I read an article recently by Marius Vieth titled ” The Photography Gene – Do You Have It?
It had me thinking about the love I have for the smallest details in my vintage props.
At the time I was searching for handmade items and it was in that moment…the moment of working with someone to create what I wanted…that I realized how much the details matter to me.
I had never thought about how I looked at things and was blaming myself for not liking something until I read Marius Vieth’s article.
He talks about whether a photographer sees a car or they see the detail in the old steering wheel, the stitching, the ashes in the ashtray….the story!
I look for the story in the torn and tattered but, it doesn’t stop there!
The smallest details have me purchasing or not purchasing a vintage prop.
Like this antique crock.
It’s the timeworn beauty that adds character and charm.
If a book is aged…how is it aged…is it torn just right with just the right amount of aged paper.
Creating something with someone else made me realize a few things.
What looked the same to them didn’t look the same to me at all.
How about you…do you notice the details or the big picture?
Kindly, xo
Jane

I do not have the photography gene. I know this for sure!
But, I do notice the details first in a piece first.
I love the story your work shows, but even more I love the feeling they evoke.
Of simply beauty that evokes peace.

I do have the gene, and the bug. All in the details 😀
Lol we got the gene!
