If you follow us on Facebook you will have seen that we have expanded our space at The Depot at Gibson Mill.  The walls came down after Christmas and we finally have signage.

With the expansion complete and the holidays over I have been organizing our home.  The garage was getting a little embarrassing!

It was a rainy Sunday and a great day to organize…or maybe just one little project!

A Corner Door Shelf

Corner Door Cabinet

I purchased a corner door shelf a few months ago because I fell in love with the color and patina.  When it comes to vintage doors with chippy paint they can be pretty amazing and hard to duplicate.  I knew if nothing else the corner door shelf would be a great display piece.

I was working on taking a good picture to show you and wouldn’t you know it…..the cabinet sold!

(I know you’ve heard this before…2015 goal…learn to take pictures of my Antique Booth)

With the corner door shelf selling I knew I would need something in the back corner of my booth….so I asked my hubby if he thought we had a door that would work for a corner shelf.

We had a solid wood door and even though the door lacked the chippy paint, I figured I could embellish it in other ways.

Old Wood Door

Using a skill saw he cut the door almost in half

We butted up the doors at a 90 degree angle.  Keep in mind it is important to butt the smaller side into the larger side.  Once you have the sides lined up secure them with 3 inch wood screws.

I wanted something a little different for the shelves so we covered 1×6 pine boards with old rusty tin that was shaped over the wood with a lot of hammering!

Now for the embellishments!

This corner door shelf is for our antique booth so I had my husband attach an old mechanics light.  The soft flicker of the light on the shelf gives it a warm, old-timey feel.

Vintage ScaleWhat I love about a corner shelf is that it adds dimension and function to the corner without taking up space.

If you frequent Antique Stores or Flea Markets you can find doors and depending on the patina the price will vary.  If an old door is not right for you or you’re worried about old paint you can always use a new door.  Just remember to always purchase a solid wood door as many of the new ones are hollow!  Good luck.

Kindly, Jane

    • Hi Shari,

I have lots of old tin since we built our barn from salvaged materials. I would check a local antique or salvage store

      thanks for visiting!

  • It looks like you used a portion of another door for the very top of this . Is it or what did you use?

    • thank you, it would depend on how much you pay for a door and I’m not sure who makes them to sell.

  • Hi, I love this door cabinet. I’m not that crafty so wondering how much it would cost to buy one?

    • I’m not sure, we don’t sell them. Maybe try an Antique Store where people build things to sell
